Well the summer of 2010 is quickly coming to an end. It has been a wonderful and blessed summer for our association so far. We have enjoyed great VBSs and have had the blessing of getting to know a new NAMB missionary working with us. Eric Bergquist has help us this summer with community mission work and is available for short term small groups, Sunday School classes, to speak in your churches about community missions or, speak about the California Missions Offering we are taking in September. Eric can be reached at 415 939-2377.

I want to ask you to please pay close attention to the newsletter this month! Please note what a special opportunity it is to have CLT in our area. We put nearly all our association training money into being one of the sponsors of this incredible day of training.

Then there is the California Mission Offering; maybe you have never taken this offering in your church, let me encourage you to do so this year. Our state denominational workers starting with Doctor Whittaker, have almost all taken pay cuts and furlough days. Prayerfully consider helping out this year. On a very happy note please take note of the article on the special church planting day we are having this fall on 10/10/10.

Always in my prayers,

Jack Roberts DOM CostaMeda Baptist Association

The Salt Of The Earth

This year the Forth of July came on a Sunday, and many at Calvary Baptist Church in Lafayette got out of the salt shaker and tried to obey the command to be the salt of the earth. They did it in a most ingenious way. A few met for worship in case visitors came, but Pastors Scott and Dennis, the worship leader and others were not at the church building. They went to the parade in Orinda. They planned ahead and ran a crafts booth in the middle of the festivities. They serve the community that morning, or to put it another way to be salt of the earth. They had many opportunities to share about their faith and their church. Back at Calvary a sermon was preached and worship continued as normal. They were no less assembled when they were spread out, because their assembly was measured by how well they functioned.

Can you imagine if now and then all of us would take a step back from our routines and ask ourselves how can we functionally be the "Salt of the Earth"? It takes imagination to get outside of our own little worlds and see what is going on around us. It takes the filling of Jesus Christ to let us genuinely love what we see. The freedom to imagine is an expression of our confidence in Christ, and the power to love comes from His love for us.
